Each new inductee into RPI's chapter of Alpha Psi Omega, the National Dramatic Honor Society, creates a plaque containing three required elements: his or her name, a pair of "drama masks," and the Greek letters ΑΨΩ. Plaques must measure exactly 4"x4"x.75", and must be painted black with white lettering. My plaque fulfills all requirements — but in a nontraditional manner. From a distance, only the two masks are visible. Close up, however, one can read tiny type — my name and the letters ΑΨΩ are repeated over and over in the shape of the masks. Obviously, I did not paint my plaque by hand. After researching many options, I found a local jeweler who could machine-engrave my vector image onto black-faced aluminum. The completed plaque currently hangs in the RPI Playhouse, 15th Street, Troy, NY. |
